Irish actors Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal have been nominated for Golden Globe awards for the acclaimed drama Hamnet.

The Irish stars are among the acting nominees for their roles in Chloe Zhao's film, the adaptation of Maggie O'Farrell's book about William Shakespeare, his wife, Agnes, and their son Hamnet.

Mescal is nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture (Drama), while Buckley is among the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture (Drama) nominees.

Mescal faces competition from Benicio Del Toro, Jacob Elordi, Sean Penn, Adam Sandler and Stellan Skarsgard, who have also been nominated for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards.

Del Toro and Penn are nominated for their roles in One Battle After Another, Elordi for his role in Frankenstein; Sandler for Jay Kelly; and Skarsgard for Sentimental Value.

Buckley will face competition from Jennifer Lawrence (Die My Love), Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value), Julia Roberts (After The Hunt) , Tessa Thompson (Hedda) and Eva Victor (Sorry, Baby).

Director Yorgos Lanthimos' Bugonia, produced by Dublin-based Element Pictures, picked up three nominations. It was nominated for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Emma Stone was nominated for Best Female Actor - Musical or Comedy and Jesse Plemons was nominated for Best Male Actor - Musical or Comedy.

Element Pictures' co-CEOs and founders Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe said: "We're absolutely thrilled with these nominations. We've worked with Yorgos Lanthimos for over 10 years now, and we are honoured to have produced all of his English language films.

Blue Moon, which was filmed in Ireland and tells the story of composer Lorenz Hart's struggles with alcoholism and mental health during the opening of Oklahoma!, is also up for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy and the movie's lead star, Ethan Hawke, is nominated for Best Male Actor - Motion Picture - Musical/Comedy.

Actresses Emily Blunt, Elle Fanning, Ariana Grande, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, Amy Madigan and Teyana Taylor have been nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in any motion picture.

Wicked: For Good

Blunt has been nominated for her role in The Smashing Machine; Fanning and Ibsdotter Lilleaas for Sentimental Value; Grande in Wicked For Good; Madigan for Weapons, and Taylor for One Battle After Another.

Paul Thomas Anderson, Ryan Coogler, Guillermo Del Toro, Jafar Panahi, Joachim Trier and Chloe Zhao have been nominated for Best Director of a Motion Picture.

Anderson has been nominated for One Battle After Another; Del Toro for Frankenstein; Panahi for It Was Just An Accident; Trier for Sentimental Value; Coogler for Sinners; and Zhao for Hamnet.

The TV series All Her Fault, based on the blockbuster thriller by Dublin author Andrea Mara, is up for Best Limited Series, Anthology Series or Television Motion Picture. It will compete against Adolescence, The Beast in Me, Black Mirror, Dying for Sex and The Girlfriend.

Succession star Sarah Snook has been nominated for Best Female Actor – Television – Limited Series, Anthology Series or Television Motion Picture for her leading role in the series.

Jenna Ortega, star of the Netflix series Wednesday, which was filmed in Ireland, was among the nominees for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series, Musical or Comedy along with Kristen Bell (Nobody Wants This), Ayo Edebiri (The Bear), Selena Gomez (Only Murders in the Building), Natasha Leone (Poker Face) and Jean Smart (Hacks).

The Best Picture nominees in the drama category are Frankenstein, Hamnet, It Was Just An Accident, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Values, and Sinners.

In the Comedy or Musical Best Picture Category, the nominees are Blue Moon, Bugonia, Marty Supreme, No Other Choice, Nouvelle Vague, and One Battle After Another.

The Best Male Actor in a Drama Film category saw Joel Edgerton nominated for Train Dreams, Oscar Isaac for Frankenstein, Dwayne Johnson for his role in The Smashing Machine, Michael B Jordan for Sinners, Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent, and Jeremy Allen White for Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere.

For Best Male Actor in a Comedy or Musical Film, Leonardo DiCaprio was nominated for One Battle After Another, Timothee Chalamet for Marty Supreme, George Clooney for Jay Kelly, Ethan Hawke for Blue Moon, Lee Byung-Hun for No Other Choice, and Jesse Plemons for Bugonia.

In the Best Female Actor in a Comedy or Music Film, Rose Byrne was nominated for If I Had Legs I'd Kick You, Cynthia Erivo for Wicked: For Good, Kate Hudson for Song Sung Blue, Chase Infiniti for One Battle After Another, Amanda Seyfried for The Testament Of Ann Lee, and Emma Stone for Bugonia.

The winners will be revealed during the 83rd Golden Globes ceremony in Los Angeles, hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser, on 11 January.
