Paul Thomas Anderson's politically charged drama One Battle After Another leads the way at this year’s Golden Globes with nine nominations.

Norwegian family dramedy Sentimental Value follows with eight nods, with period horror Sinners on seven and Shakespeare family drama Hamnet on six.

Musical fantasy Wicked: For Good has five nominations.

The Globes, taking place on 11 January at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, are traditionally viewed as an indicator of momentum heading into the Academy Awards later in the season.

There was strong Irish interest in the nominations, with Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal both recognised for their performances in Hamnet, adapted from the novel by Irish writer Maggie O’Farrell.

On the television side, All Her Fault, based on the book by Irish author Andrea Mara, is nominated in the Limited Series Category, with star Sarah Snook also shortlisted.
