First Class Rebel is the new project from Irish musician Ian Burke, with influences ranging from The Jesus and Mary Chain and The Brian Jonestown Massacre to Oasis, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and Mogwai.

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

Originally from Cork, now living in Tipperary.

I'm fascinated by guitars and their sound.

I enjoy spending time cooking.

How would you describe your music?

I would describe my music as shoegaze, psych, with walls of sound, created by big crashing layers of guitar. What’s important to me is the mood and sounds of a song. That’s what I’ve really tried to capture with my music. Simplicity is key.

Who are your musical inspirations?

Far too many to mention, but some honorary nods to Oasis, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Jesus and Mary Chain and The Stone Roses.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

Feile '95 in Cork, an amazing line up then and an amazing line up now. I saw The Stone Roses, The Verve, Prodigy, Blur, Paul Weller, Massive Attack, The Chemical Brothers, Underworld.

What was the first record you ever bought?

I can’t remember the first record I bought, but I definitely bought the debuts from Oasis, Interpol, Roses, The Strokes and BRMC and I still listen to them to this day…

What’s your favourite song right now?

I have two songs by Irish bands on repeat at the moment. Such a Steal by The Altered Hours and Mental Health by Slyrydes.

Favourite lyric of all time?

I Wanna Be Adored by The Stone Roses…What a statement. I love the simplicity of it.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Untitled by Interpol.

Where can people find your music/more information?

You can find me on Instragram (firstclassrebel), SoundCloud, Spotify, Apple, Amazon, basically all the main streaming services.
