El Clash Combo celebrate the life and work of Joe Strummer at The Alternative Sunday Social Club Presents in Hyde, Dublin on Sunday, 21 December at 4.00pm. We asked El Clash Combo front man Brendan O'Connor aka Bokker the BIG questions . . .
Formed in 2005, El Clash Combo are four seasoned musicians - Bokker, Macker, Dave and Sean - with a solid pedigree (Crime of Passion, The Candyshop, The Icon Trial, The Honey Thieves, Candy Apple Red, and Fans of Adventure).
They say their mission is to revive the passion, energy and music of The Clash, playing a wide selection of songs from all five of the band's albums as well as singles and B-sides.
Tell us three things about yourself …
I'm a singer/guitarist .
I played my first gig in the Dandelion Market with my band SideFX when I was 15.
I first played with the guys from El Clash Combo with a band called Crime Of Passion.
How would you describe your music?
We play the music of The Clash with power and passion.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Well obviously, The Clash! But I have an eclectic taste in music, Bob Dylan, Neil Young The Waterboys, but I still love listening to the music that burst into my life in1976/77.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
Gary Glitter when I was 10. I know . . .
What was the first record you ever bought?
Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols - The Sex Pistols.
What’s your favourite song right now?
Waterloo Sunset - The Kinks.
Favourite lyric of all time?
"If Adolf Hitler, flew in today, they’d send a limousine anyway" - (White Man) In Hammersmith Palais - The Clash.
