Erotic City, from his album Days Awake, was inspired by Dave's time living and performing in New York, and paints "a vivid portrait of desire, isolation, and the neon-lit energy of a city that never sleeps".
Speaking about the track, he says, "It seems like I’ve had to wait a long time for the inspiration and the ability to write, play and release my own songs.
"Now that it’s happening, it’s such a thrill to make the songs available and to work with directors who bring them to life in cinematic ways. It’s been worth the wait."
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
I am from Dublin’s Northside and I live for music.
I am a guitarist and singer/songwriter and consider myself very lucky to be musical.
I love playing live as it can be an electrifying communion between audience and artist.
How would you describe your music?
Melodic rock with darker influences, good tunes with anarchic lyrics, psychic mantras.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Tame Impala, the best of what is right now that there is a shortage of great guitar bands. Echo and the Bunnymen. I was too young to have seen The Doors and Echo are the next best thing. The Beatles and inspiration go together well, never has a band been more inspired.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
Prince at Wembley, was otherworldly, he was so small in stature and his sound and grooves so huge.
What was the first record you ever bought?
Heaven Up Here by Echo and the Bunnymen which is still my all-time favourite LP, the perfect record, angst, imagination, drama, drums and guitars
What’s your favourite song right now?
From the Morning by Let’s Eat Grandma from a Nick Drake tribute album which successfully re-imagines the great final song from Nick’s final album.
Favourite lyric of all time?
"Fate smiled at destiny" from Wonder by Natalie Merchant, which is a magical song from an album Natalie has yet to better.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Penny Lane, which is the most tuneful, moving, haunting and emotional song the Fab Four ever did.
Where can people find your music/more information?
Dave Hero is on YouTube, Instagram, Spotify, Apple Music.
