Donal Skehan's new series Real Time Recipes is essential viewing for some inspiration for no-fuss midweek dinners, featuring receips done on the hob or countertop in 30 minutes or less. Tonight he cooks a host of delicious vegetarian dishes, including a bowl of dal, topped with golden, crispy cauliflower, and sticky tofu rice bowls.
Michael D Higgins: Ireland's Ninth President, RTÉ One, 9.35pm
After 14 years at Áras an Uachtaráin, this new documentary takes a look at the life and political career of Michael D Higgins, featuring interviews and seven decades worth of RTÉ archival footage spanning his political and family life.
This retrospective examines – in his own words and the words of those who know and worked with him – Higgins' life and work over the years.
Spanning his childhood to present day, the documentary shows the influence of the War of Independence and Civil War on his family, which shaped a passion for equality and human rights. It looks at his early career in Galway and election in 1981 as Labour Party TD for Galway West, the first Labour TD there since the 1920s.
Broadcaster and journalist Áine Lawlor questions notable contributors about his life including former President Mary Robinson, Leo Varadkar, who was Taoiseach during his time in office, writer and director Neil Jordan, and Hollywood actor and activist Martin Sheen.
