Singapore jails Australian for nine days over Ariana Grande incident

A Singapore court has sentenced an Australian man to nine days in jail for rushing film star Ariana Grande at the Asian premiere of Wicked: For Good last week.

Grande and other stars were attending the Asia-Pacific premiere of the film at Universal Studios in the city-state last Thursday when the man, identified by court papers as Johnson Wen, 26, jumped a barricade and put his arm around the shocked actor.

Wen, who is alleged to have disrupted other global sports events and concerts, "showed a pattern of behaviour, which suggests that you will do it again", Singapore District Judge Christopher Goh said before handing down the sentence.

Eyewitness video from the event at Universal Studios Singapore showed Wen running towards Grande on the yellow carpet and putting his arm around her as she stood beside her co-star Michelle Yeoh.

Cynthia Erivo, who also stars in the film, stepped in as security rushed to pull Wen away.
