Saoirse Ronan wins BAFTA Scotland award for her performance in The Outrun

Saoirse Ronan won the Actress Film/Television award for her performance in the recovery drama The Outrun at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Scotland Awards in Glasgow on Sunday night.

Ronan was not present at the ceremony at the DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow Central to celebrate her first BAFTA win after multiple nominations.

The award was collected on Ronan's behalf by her friend and fellow nominee, Izuka Hoyle, who read a message from Ronan.

In the message, Ronan described The Outrun as an "incredible team effort" and thanked all those involved in making it, as well as Amy Liptrot, on whose book the Nora Fingscheidt-directed film is based.

She also thanked the people of Orkney, where the film is set, saying: "This would not have been possible without you, your willingness to let us into your lives, your homes, your story."

In her speech, she also praised Big Boys star Hoyle, describing her as a "beautiful, rare gem" and saying: "The work you've seen from her so far is only the beginning. Watch her soar."

Also honoured at the ceremony was Scottish star James McArdle, who received the Actor Film/Television award for his role in the Irish comedy-drama Four Mothers, directed by Darren Thornton.

McArdle thanked everyone involved in the film during his acceptance speech.

He praised the "incredible producers, and this phenomenal cast of those four women", joking that "to be trapped in a bus with these four octogenarians was a real, real joy".

The Outrun director Nora Fingscheidt won the Director Fiction award.

The workplace drama On Falling won two awards: Feature Film and Writer Film/Television for Laura Carreira.

The Hunt for Peter Tobin also won two awards: Factual Series and Director Factual for Matt Pinder.

Lockerbie: A Search for Truth won the award for Television Scripted.

The BAFTA Scotland Audience Award for Favourite Scot on Screen went to Sheli McCoy for her performance in Gladiators.

Location, Location, Location was honoured for its Outstanding Contribution to Scotland's Screen Industry.

All Aboard! Scotland's Poshest Train, presented by Alan Cumming, won the award for Factual Entertainment.

The Entertainment award went to Up Late with Nicola Benedetti.

imagine... The Academy of Armando, following the work of comedy writer Armando Iannucci, won the award for Single Documentary.

The News and Current Affairs award went to Kids in the Psychiatric Ward from the BBC series Disclosure.

Paternal Advice won in the Short Film & Animation category.

Ewan McGregor said it was "amazing" to receive the Outstanding Contribution Award and paid tribute to his actor uncle Denis Lawson for inspiring him as he collected the honour in Glasgow.

On the night, McGregor was presented with the award by Lawson, who described his nephew as an "extraordinarily versatile actor".

McGregor made his breakthrough in the 1990s in films such as Shallow Grave and Trainspotting, and he has gone on to star in the likes of Star Wars and Moulin Rouge!.

Receiving the award on Sunday, he described his uncle, who also appeared in Star Wars, as "my biggest inspiration" and credited him for teaching him what acting really was.

McGregor said: "I can't imagine anybody I would rather get this amazing award from than my uncle Denis."

He paid tribute to his wife and fellow actor, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and said he would love to work with her more, jokingly calling for more films they could be in together.
