Obituary and The Dry star Siobhán Cullen is joining Henry Cavill, Russell Crowe, and Karen Gillan in the upcoming remake of the 1986 action fantasy Highlander.

US entertainment trade publication The Hollywood Reporter says the remake, which will be directed by John Wick's Chad Stahelski, is due to begin filming in early 2026.

Filming was pushed back from the autumn after Cavill was injured in pre-production.

The cast also includes Jeremy Irons, Dave Bautista, Kevin McKidd, Djimon Hounsou, and Marisa Abela.

Highlander will see Cavill playing Connor MacLeod, a Medieval Scotsman who discovers he is an immortal warrior.

Under the tutelage of another immortal, Ramirez (Russell Crowe), MacLeod fights their rival warriors across the centuries because "There can be only one."

In the present day, The Hollywood Reporter says, Cullen will play "a police psychiatrist who discovers the existence of immortals and wants to help MacLeod".

The original 1986 cult favourite was directed by Russell Mulcahy.

It starred Christopher Lambert as MacLeod and Sean Connery as Ramirez and included the Queen classics A Kind of Magic and Who Wants to Live Forever on the soundtrack.

The film was followed by big-screen sequels, live-action TV series, and an animated series.

Season two of Obituary airs on RTÉ One on Tuesdays at 10:15pm, and seasons one and two are available on the RTÉ Player.
