Laura Dern has announced the death of her mother and fellow actor Diane Ladd at the age of 89.
In a statement, Laura Dern said: "My amazing hero and my profound gift of a mother, Diane Ladd, passed with me beside her this morning, at her home in Ojai, Ca.
"She was the greatest daughter, mother, grandmother, actress, artist and empathetic spirit that only dreams could have seemingly created.
"We were blessed to have her.
"She is flying with her angels now."
Diane Ladd was a three-time Oscar nominee for her performances in Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974), Wild at Heart (1990), and Rambling Rose (1991), all in the Best Supporting Actress category.
In Wild at Heart, she played the mother of Laura Dern's character, Lulu, and she also starred opposite her daughter in Rambling Rose.
Diane Ladd was a BAFTA winner for Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore and a Golden Globe winner for her work on the series Alice.
She was a three-time Emmy nominee for guest roles in the series Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman, Grace Under Fire, and Touched by an Angel.
She also received Golden Globe nominations for Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, Wild at Heart, and Rambling Rose.
Diane Ladd's screen career spanned 65 years and included the films Chinatown, Black Widow, Citizen Ruth, Primary Colors, 28 Days, Inland Empire, and Joy. She also starred alongside her daughter Laura Dern in Citizen Ruth and Inland Empire.
Her television credits included the series Naked City, Perry Mason, The Fugitive, Gunsmoke, The Big Valley, LA Law, Cold Lazarus, ER, Ray Donovan, and Young Sheldon.
The author of a number of books, Diane Ladd co-wrote 2023's Honey, Baby, Mine: A Mother and Daughter Talk Life, Death, Love (and Banana Pudding) with Laura Dern.
Born Rose Diane Ladnier in Mississippi in November 1935, she would have celebrated her 90th birthday on 29 November.
Diane Ladd was married to Laura Dern's father, the actor Bruce Dern, from 1960 to 1969. The couple's eldest daughter, Diane Elizabeth, died aged 18 months in a drowning accident in May 1962.
Diane Ladd was married to businessman William A Shea Jr from 1969 to 1977 and to her third husband, PepsiCo CEO Robert Charles Hunter, from 1999 until his death in July of this year.
