Hollywood star Mischa Barton, best known for playing Marissa Cooper in The O.C., is set to return to Dublin next spring to star in a new stage production of Double Indemnity at the Gaiety Theatre.

The adaptation of James M. Cain's classic crime novel, which inspired Billy Wilder’s film noir masterpiece, will run from 24 to 28 March 2026. The play has been adapted for the stage by Tom Holloway and will be directed by Oscar Toeman.

Barton, who previously appeared on the Gaiety stage in 2012 in Steel Magnolias, said she was "absolutely thrilled" to be returning to Ireland.

"This classic film noir favourite is a gripping tale of deceit, tension and suspense, and I cannot wait to step into the role of Phyllis and share her with audiences in Dublin," she said.

Set in 1930s Los Angeles, Double Indemnity follows insurance salesman Walter Huff, who becomes entangled with the dangerously seductive Phyllis Nirdlinger (Barton) in a web of lust, greed and betrayal as they plot the perfect murder.

Born in London and raised in New York, Barton has strong Irish roots through her mother, Nuala Quinn-Barton, who is from Newry. She has often spoken about her affection for Ireland and the warm welcome she has received here, describing her earlier time performing in Dublin as "a dream come true".

Tickets for Double Indemnity at the Gaiety Theatre are on sale now via Ticketmaster.
