Irish-language documentary Focla ar Chanbhás unveils trailer

The trailer for the award-winning Irish-language documentary Focla ar Chanbhás (Words on Canvas), which focuses on the work of singer-songwriter David Keenan, has been released ahead of a special screening at the Irish Film Institute on Thursday, 6 November.

"Set against the backdrop of Keenan's hometown of Dundalk, the film follows the acclaimed singer-songwriter through a deeply personal creative period as he writes and records his forthcoming album Modern Mythologies," says the synopsis for the film, which is directed by Paddy Hayes (Obituary, Foscadh, Finné, CUMAR, and Daniel O'Connell: Forgotten King).

"Shot over 500 days, the documentary offers rare access to his creative process and reflects on the challenges of artistic authenticity in a world dominated by social media and algorithms.

"The film is told partly as Gaeilge, capturing a natural, contemporary Irish born in the council estates of Dundalk. It builds on the success of recent Irish-language cinema and contributes to the growing movement of modern Irish-language expression in film and music."

Focla ar Chanbhás was the winner of the Best Cinematography Award at the Docs Ireland festival and is produced by Tua Films and funded under the ilDÁNA scheme by TG4 and the Arts Council.

The special screening at the Irish Film Institute on Thursday, 6 November at 6:30pm will be followed by a Q&A with director Paddy Hayes and musician David Keenan. For more, see ifi.ie.

Keenan's new album, Modern Mythologies, will be released on Friday, 21 November.
