Derry Girls star Jamie-Lee O'Donnell has said she relished the chance to play "a bit of a creep" opposite Baz Ashmawy in the Virgin Media One comedy series Faithless.

Season two of the acclaimed show sees Ashmawy's character, Sam, in a sticky situation when his amorous boss, Chloe (O'Donnell), sets her sights on him.

"She's a nut!" O'Donnell told RTÉ Entertainment. "Things go slightly left field and very intense very quickly!"

"I also think it's interesting for the dynamic to switch around, for the woman to be in that position, which obviously, I'm sure it happens," the Derry actress continued.

"But I think it is an interesting dynamic, and I think it's something that we've poked fun at quite well, because it doesn't end up in the way [you might expect]. It doesn't end up sad, and I think that that's a good thing."

She saluted her co-star and Faithless writer-creator Ashmawy for making her feel so welcome on the series.

"I didn't really know him before," O'Donnell recounted. "I knew of him, but I'd never met him or anything. He's incredibly tall! Well, compared to me, anyway! I think he's a wee bit shyer than what I thought he was going to be! He's got a really nice energy."

Chloe warns Sam
"Things go slightly left field and very intense very quickly!"

"He has a very open energy, in that sort of sense. 'Hey, let's go! Let's do it! Let's this! Let's that!' That's always a really nice place to be," she said.

"Usually, whenever someone is acting in something that they've either written or are directing, there's always such a nice energy, whether they're looking at everything from loads of different angles at the same time and then probably considering anything as well. Whereas me, just being the actor, it's like I can sort of focus in on that side of it in a lot of ways," she explained.

"So, I think even whenever you're asking or you're trying to work something out, I find that whenever you're working with Baz - as I say, because he was multi-roling'- he was able to give really concrete responses. It was good to sort of 'drive' the scene.

"He's also quite open to, like, playing about, which is always nice, and having the craic and just seeing how things work. I always think it's really nice when people, especially if you're doing comedy, can maintain banter and rapport and craic between the scenes."

Viewers can judge the pair's chemistry for themselves in Faithless on Virgin Media One on Wednesdays at 10pm and Sundays at 10pm. Seasons one and two are available on Virgin Media Play.
