Ancestors, the new mystery starring Cork actor Éanna Hardwicke in the lead role, has completed production in Dublin.

The Irish-UK co-production, which marks the feature debut of writer-director David Turpin (The Lodgers, The Winter Lake), sees Saipan and Normal People star Hardwicke joined by Jack Wolfe (Shadow and Bone, The Witcher, The Magic Flute), Jessica Reynolds (Kneecap, The House of Guinness, Derry Girls), Rupert Everett (My Best Friend's Wedding, Napoleon, The Happy Prince), and Christina Hendricks (Mad Men, The Neon Demon, Good Girls).

"A love story, noir mystery and metaphysical fable, Ancestors follows charismatic but vulnerable Beau (Éanna Hardwicke) as he searches 1980s London for his missing friend, Tiny (Jack Wolfe)," says the synopsis.

"Dream, reality, memory, and history entwine, ultimately bringing Beau face-to-face with life, death, and the beyond."

Dublin company Samson Films is among the producers of Ancestors with Screen Ireland/Fís Eireann among the financiers.

"Ancestors begins as the mystery of a missing person and becomes a journey into something deeper," said writer-director Turpin.

"It uses the language of dreams to confront the questions with which reason alone cannot help us.

"I think of it as a séance - reaching across the borders of the past and the next world, calling to the ancestors I could never know in life."
