Michael Fassbender has been cast as Joe Kennedy Sr, the father of US President John F Kennedy, Senator Robert F Kennedy, and Senator Edward 'Ted' Kennedy, in the new Netflix drama series Kennedy.
US entertainment trade publication Deadline reports that Kennedy is based on Fredrik Logevall's book JFK: Coming of Age in the American Century, 1917-1956.
It will be directed by Oscar-nominated director Thomas Vinterberg (Another Round, The Hunt, Festen), who will also be among the executive producers.
The synopsis for the eight-episode series says it will follow "the intimate lives, loves, rivalries, and tragedies that shaped the most iconic dynasty in modern history, and helped create the world we live in today".
"Beginning in the 1930s, the first season charts the improbable ascent of Joe and Rose Kennedy and their nine children, including rebellious second son Jack, who struggles to escape the shadow of his golden boy older brother," it adds.
No other casting details have been announced.
Fassbender will next be seen opposite his wife Alicia Vikander in the film Hope, which is due for release next year.
