The Big Star Quintet, a supergroup featuring members of R.E.M. and Teenage Fanclub, have added a second Dublin date to their tour after the first show sold out.
The band will celebrate fifty years of the hugely influential American band Big Star at the Button Factory with a new date on the 29 of April 2026 and their already sold-out show on 30 April.
Tickets priced €44.20 go on sale on Wednesday 15 October at 10:00am.
The band will also play next year's Smithwick’s Kilkenny Roots Festival on 1 May at the Set Theatre.
Featuring Big Star’s Jody Stephens, Mike Mills of R.E.M., Jon Auer of Big Star and The Posies, Chris Stamey of the dB's, and Norman Blake of Teenage Fanclub, The Big Star Quintet play the music of the Memphis power pop band with songs such as In the Street, Thirteen, September Gurls, Back of a Car, and I’m in Love With a Girl.
They will play tracks from Big Star’s celebrated albums, No. 1 Record, Radio City, and Third/Sister Lovers.
Big Star were formed by vocalist/guitarist/pianist Alex Chilton, vocalist/guitarist Chris Bell, bassist Andy Hummel, and drummer Jody Stephens in the early ’70s and set the template for power pop and were a huge influence on acts such as R.E.M. Cheap Trick, Teenage Fanclub and The Replacements.
