Former Fight Like Apes singer MayKay has released her self-titled debut album and plays Whelan's of Dublin on 18 December. We asked her the BIG questions . . .

MayKay has also worked with Jerry Fish, Kormac, Elaine Mai, Jack O’Rourke, and Ailbhe Reddy and presented on RTÉ music show Other Voices.

To celebrate the launch of the album, she will also be performing in-stores in Dublin, Limerick and Cork this October. She appears at:

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I've been a musician for 20 years.

This is my very first solo record.

I'm from Ardclough in Co Kildare.

How would you describe your music?

A more articulate person than me described my music as a charm bracelet of genres, crossing country, pop, and new wave.

Who are your musical inspirations?

My musical inspirations include Jenny Lewis, Andy Falkous and Jinx Lennon.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

I'm sorry to report that the first I ever went to was Richie Kavanagh on the side of a truck in Donegal Town.

What was the first record you ever bought?

I'm sorry to report that the first record I ever bought was a CD of Aqua by Barbie Girl.

What’s your favourite song right now?

My favourite song right now is definitely Here by Rosie Carney. Jaw droppingly beautiful.

Favourite lyric of all time?

My favourite lyric is "My dad is bigger than your dad, He's got eight cars and a house in Ireland" - To Hell With Good Intentions by McLusky.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Only in Dreams by Weezer.
