The Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal-starring Hamnet has won the People's Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) - a predictor of the Best Picture Oscar winner.
US entertainment trade publication Deadline says previous TIFF People's Choice Award winners that went on to receive the Best Picture Oscar include Chariots of Fire, American Beauty, Slumdog Millionaire, The King's Speech, 12 Years a Slave, Green Book, and, most recently, Nomadland - directed by Hamnet director Chloé Zhao.

Hamnet "tells the powerful love story that inspired the creation of Shakespeare's timeless masterpiece, Hamlet".
Mescal plays William Shakespeare and Buckley plays Agnes, his wife.

Hamnet is based on the bestseller of the same name by author Maggie O'Farrell, with O'Farrell and director Zhao adapting the book for the screen.
The film also stars Emily Watson and Joe Alwyn.

Hamnet will be released in cinemas on Friday 9 January.
The Oscar nominations will be announced on Thursday 22 January.
