American folk singer-songwriter Mary Gauthier returns to Ireland for a seven-date tour this October with special guest Jaimee Harris. We asked Mary the BIG questions . . .

The Grammy nominee will play tracks from her 30-year career and songs from her most recent album, Dark Enough to See the Stars.

Her songs have been recorded by dozens of artists, including Jimmy Buffett, Dolly Parton, Boy George, Blake Shelton, Tim McGraw, Bettye Lavette, Mike Farris, Kathy Mattea, Bobby Bare, Amy Helm and Candi Staton and have been featured extensively in film and television including TV shows Yellowstone and Nashville.

Mary’s first book, Saved by a Song: The Art and Healing Power of Songwriting, was published in 2021.

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I am a troubadour - songwriter, an author, and a teacher.

How would you describe your music?

I write songs that make people feel.

Who are your musical inspirations?

Other songwriters that make people feel, authors that make people feel, and all truth tellers everywhere.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

Bruce Springsteen, The River Tour.

What was the first record you ever bought?

Don McLean, American Pie.

What’s your favourite song right now?

War Pigs, Black Sabbath (RIP Ozzy)

Favourite lyric of all time?

"Politicians hide themselves away, They only started the war, Why should they go out to fight? They leave that all to the poor, yeah" - War Pigs by Black Sabbath.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Not gonna happen.
