Derry Girls star Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Stephen Rea, Aidan Quinn, and Eva Birthistle are among the cast of The Body is Water, a new Irish US co-production which has wrapped shooting in West Cork.
Directed by Irish writer-director Vicky Wight (Happiness for Beginners, The Lost Husband), the film was shot on location in Ireland for six weeks, with the production then moving to Houston last week for the final scenes.
In the official synopsis, the producers say, "Set between Houston, Texas, and the weathered coastline of West Cork, Ireland, The Body Is Water follows a grieving man who vanishes to a remote Irish village, only to find that disappearing is the one thing the town - and Lou, an eccentric young woman with a curious dog - won't let him do.
"A heartfelt exploration of grief, unlikely connection, and cultural contrast, the film weaves humour and pathos across two continents."
The Body Is Water also stars Isiah Whitlock Jr. (The Wire, Cocaine Bear), Academy Award nominee Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor (Origin, King Richard), Allen Leech (Downton Abbey, Bohemian Rhapsody), Fionnula Flanagan (The Others), Maria Doyle Kennedy (Orphan Black, Outlander), and Bronagh Gallagher (The End, The Commitments).
Speaking about the shoot, Ms Wight said, "It has been a four-year labour of love to bring this film to fruition and it was truly my dream come true to make it in West Cork where I first started writing the script at the Fastnet Film Festival in Schull."

She also praised the cast, saying, "Why are they all in this movie? It’s crazy. Everyone who read the script felt that something about it connected to them and they wanted to create the worked with me of this small town in Ireland.
"Stephen Rea is one of my all-time acting heroes and when he said yes, I almost fell off my chair."
