Alex discovers Zoe and Hughie's deception and demands they tell Melanie the truth in Friday's Fair City on RTÉ One and the RTÉ Player.
Hughie is pretending he is back on the drink as revenge on Melanie for her involvement in the theft of his car.
Melanie tried to put the innocent Zoe in the frame for the theft.
Now, Melanie is supporting Hughie - and Zoe's plan is for Melanie to lose her job because she is spending so much time with Hughie.
In Friday's episode, Alex says to Zoe: "My ma doesn't deserve it."
"I think she does," replies Zoe.
"Are you not just as bad, Zoe?" says Alex.
"Zoe, isn't it time you stopped this?" asks Hughie.
