As part of the NCH Landmarks Series, Jape will play The Monkeys In The Zoo Have More Fun Than Me (2004) and the Choice Music Prize-winning Ritual (2008).

Jape began as the solo moniker of Richie Egan - formerly of Redneck Manifesto - and they have released five albums to date.

The band have performed at festivals such as Glastonbury, Electric Picnic, Lovebox and Hard Working Class Heroes and supported The Flaming Lips at Belsonic in Belfast in 2008.

Tell us three things about yourself . .

I am a man that likes making music and running.

I recently had to take antibiotics for an infection on my leg.

My leg got better.

How would you describe your music?

The music I make shifts between different genres - I try to find some version of truth through making it.

Who are your musical inspirations?

Lyrically I would say Aldous Harding and Bill Callahan, production-wise - Bibio, Boards of Canada and some of the French Touch producers and in terms of songs at the moment I'm a bit obsessed with The Minutemen.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

Shakin’ Stevens at the RDS.

What was the first record you ever bought?

Simple Minds - Belfast Child on 7" inch record at Golden Discs Crumlin Shopping Centre (R.I.P).

What’s your favourite song right now?

Clouds Moving on the Sky by Emahoy Tsege Mariam Gebru is one I find myself going back to a lot these days, an evocative, beautiful and plaintive song.

Favourite lyric of all time?

"Though my problems are meaningless, that don’t make them go away. I need a crowd of people, but I can’t face them day to day" - Neil Young.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Something emotionally neutral I guess would be best, because you’d never know what mood you might be in, so I’ll say Electric Counterpoint by Steve Reich - it feels like you could soundtrack the whole gamut of human experience to that one.

Where can people find your music/more information?

Come and say hello on Instagram.
