Pick of the Day

Mrs Robinson, 9.35pm, RTÉ One

Streaming on RTÉ Player

This documentary tells the story of Mary Robinson – in her own words, for the very first time – and her battles for justice and equality over half a century.

These battles took place on the streets, in the courts, at the ballot box, and in backroom corridors of power.

A reforming constitutional lawyer and Senator in her early career, Mary Robinson detonated an electoral earthquake by winning the Irish Presidential vote in 1990, becoming the first female to take on the role.

Later, as a crusading UN High Commissioner, she built a lasting legacy of fearlessly challenging perpetrators of human rights abuses all over the world.

To this day, she exerts leadership as the Chair of The Elders; the independent group of global leaders (founded by Nelson Mandela) who work for peace, justice and human rights.

New or Returning Shows

Breakaway Femmes, 9.30pm, TG4

This is all about the first failed attempt to stage a women's Tour de France.

Contenders raced over the same cobblestones, conquered the same mountains, and were cheered by the same throng of adoring crowds as the men.

Unfortunately, the race was cancelled in the 1980s because it 'got in the way' of the men's event.

It didn't return to the sporting calendar until 2022.

Pearl Harbor: World on Fire, 9.50pm, PBS America

Early on the morning of 7 December 1941, a Japanese squadron attacked the American fleet anchored in the waters of Pearl Harbor, west of Honolulu.

This attack was a major turning point in the global conflict. The very next day, the United States entered the war, ending its policy of isolationism and reversing its defensive strategy.

How did Pearl Harbor change the face of the war and, in turn, that of the world? Why did President Roosevelt label it a 'day of infamy’?

Was it really a victory for Japan? What was the diplomatic background? And was the attack truly a surprise?
