Streaming on RTÉ Player
This is a two-part documentary revealing the role played by Irish Americans during the conflict in the North - fundraising, propagandising and gun-running - through first-hand accounts and archive footage.
The opening episode, called Anti-Treaty City, introduces viewers to NORAID, and how Civil War era anti-treaty exiles from Ireland made a solid Republican outpost in the Big Apple.
The story goes right up to Martin Galvin, the New York born District Attorney who would become the face of Noraid throughout the 1980s.
The documentary makers also meet Noraid members who explain how and why they got involved.
They follow Martin as he rises to the top of the organisation, culminating in the British Government banning him from Northern Ireland, a ban he would breach on several occasions – once with tragic consequences.
