The Handmaid's Tale ends tonight

The post-WWI pandemic is explored in The Flu That Killed 50 Million, Murder 24/7 returns for a new run, there's the New Zealand version of The Traitors, and the last-ever episode of The Handmaid’s Tale . . .

Pick of the Day

The Flu That Killed 50 Million, 6.35pm, PBS

The recent covid pandemic wasn’t the first time a pandemic killed millions of people.

In 1918, as the Armistice bells ring out across the world to celebrate the end of the Great War, a silent killer makes its way home with the soldiers.

The Spanish Flu will kill up to one third of the world’s population, more than both world wars combined.

From the soldier who carried the virus to the Western Front, to the doctor who started the fightback, this documentary follows the compelling human stories behind this seismic chapter of history.

With new evidence revealed for the first time, this film tracks the dramatic race to stop the pathogen spreading.

New or Returning Shows

Murder 24/7, 9.00pm, BBC Two

Season 2 of the documentary series that follows teams of detectives and specialists involved in murder investigations.

After 23-year-old delivery driver Aurman Singh is ambushed and beaten to death in broad daylight on a quiet estate in Shrewsbury, detectives from West Mercia Police begin a major manhunt to track down his killers.

The Traitors NZ, 8.00pm, BBC Three

Season 2 of the New Zealand version of the reality show, in which 22 everyday New Zealanders join Paul Henry at Claremont Manor at the foot of Mount Horrible in the hope of winning up to $100,000.

And it's not long before they are questioning everything and everyone as Paul's Traitors get straight to work manipulating their fellow players.

Ragdoll, 11.10pm, BBC One

Based upon the novel of the same name by Daniel Cole, this pretty good AMC series starring Lucy Hale was previously on UK satellite channel Alibi, so this is its terrestrial debut on British TV.

A gruesome discovery at a block of flats sets DI Baxter, DS Rose and DC Edmunds on the trail of a killer, who also lists six more people due to die.

Episode two follows at 11.55pm. With the Ragdoll Killer proving unstoppable, the team desperately hunt down the second victim on the list.

When hazy memories from the past surface, a frantic DS Rose starts his own investigation into the case, and his dubious interview tactics cause concern for DC Edmunds.

Code-Breakers: Bletchley Park's Lost Heroes, 8.00pm, BBC Four

Keeley Hawes (below) narrates the story of how mathematician Bill Tutte and GPO engineer Tommy Flowers unravelled the secrets of Adolf Hitler's personal code machine.

This was a gadget that was reputedly even more secure than the Enigma device.

The duo's work played an important role in ending the conflict in Europe, but because of its classified nature and continued application during the Cold War, the two men were never officially recognised.
