Tell us three things about yourself…

We're a contemporary Irish trad band with deep roots in traditional music but a love for pushing boundaries.

We’re all from County Laois in the midlands of Ireland.

The word Buíoch means "thankful" in Irish - and that’s exactly how we feel about being able to share our music.

How would you describe your music?

Our music is grounded in traditional Irish tunes and folk, but we bring a modern energy and a touch of innovation. It’s trad with drive, soul, and a few unexpected turns. You’ll hear jigs, reels, original compositions, songs and maybe a surprise or two along the way.

Who are your musical inspirations?

We all draw inspiration from the greats such as - Lúnasa, Goitse and Máirtín O’Connor - but also from contemporary musicians who blur genres. Individually, we all bring different influences to the table, from singer/songwriter, electronic music, classical to folk and world music.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

Answers vary across the band – some of us grew up going to trad sessions before we could even walk, others might say Christy Moore or Sharon Shannon at a local arts festival. One or two of us might admit to seeing a pop act back in the day… cough, cough . . . Dale seeing Westilfe but we won’t name any more names!

What was the first record you ever bought?

Again, it’s a mixed bag. There are some classic trad albums in there - maybe a bit of Altan or Frankie Gavin - and some more embarrassing ones we’ll only reveal under pressure.

What’s your favourite song right now?

At the moment, we’re loving Killeagh by Kingfisher - in our opinion it’s a great modern ballad that really captures the passion the Irish people have for our national sports. It hits deep and is full of emotion. We just love songs like that. Ones that stir something deep inside you.

Favourite lyric of all time?

Shine on You Crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd. It’s one of those lines that hits you every time.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Tough question, but maybe The Road West by Máirtín O’Connor. It’s just a track that never gets old. We all love it.

Where can people find your music/more information?

You can find us on all major streaming platforms - just search Buíoch. Follow us on Instagram @buiochtrad and on Facebook. You can also check out our website for tour dates, videos, and more about what we’re up to.
