Miley Cyrus has opened up about her "dark decade" of feuding with father Billy Ray Cyrus and spoken about how her family repaired their relationships.
In 2022, it was revealed that 32-year-old Cyrus had reportedly "cut contact" with her father amid an ongoing "feud" following their parent's divorce that same year.
In an interview with Monica Lewinsky's podcast Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky, the Flowers singer spoke about escaping the family's "dark decade" and how they repaired their relationships.
"Half of us weren't speaking to each other at one point, and we cleaned all that up," she said.
"That was a really important part of my year this year, was all of my family putting those lines of communication back together. A lot because of, you know, I had a lot of loyalty to my mom, the way that families do when parents get divorced."
"In that situation, I watched what happens when you don't clean things up as they’re happening," she continued.
"They really do stack, and then all of a sudden you go, 'Oh my God, it's been 10 years, and this is a mess that I barely even know how to start. This is like emotional hoarding.'"
When asked how the family began to overcome their issues, she said: "As we start bringing some happiness and joy into each other's life, then we’ll just be in a better place to have these conversations. 'Cause I’d rather get it balanced first."

After nearly three decades of marriage, Billy Ray and Tish divorced in 2022.
The couple, who married in 1993, had three children together: Miley, Braison, and Noah. Billy Ray also adopted Tish's two children from a previous relationship, Brandi and Trace.
