Irish Love Island contestant Conor Phillips survived a coupling twist in the opening episode of the dating series on Monday.
Twelve singletons entered the Majorcan villa and in a twist seemingly borrowed from fellow reality series Love is Blind, the women had to choose who they wanted to date without seeing their potential love interests.
Instead, they picked a partner based on their dating profiles which had been printed and put on stands.

29-year-old Helena Ford panicked and ended up picking 23-year-old rugby player Phillips, when she actually wanted to choose Harry Cooksley, 30.
Love Island's host Maya Jama looked surprised by her choice, saying: "Helena, you're with Conor, I thought you didn't like rugby players?"
Helena replied: "I know but nobody else wants to swap, does anyone want to swap? I don't want the 23-year-old he's a bit too young."

Meanwhile, fellow Irish contestant Megan Forte Clarke, a Dublin actor and panto star, chose to couple up with landscape gardener Tommy Bradley based on his dating profile.
Thus far, their pairing seems more promising than Conor and Helena's, as they bonded over their Italian heritage.
Tommy said: "My nonna’s watching this. She’ll be buzzing."

Later in the opening episode, the first ever American bombshell, Toni Laites, made a dramatic entrance at the villa.
There was excitement amongst the men and some concern with the women as Maya Jama revealed Toni has the power to immediately steal one of the boys.
Love Island continues at 9pm on Virgin Media Two.
