Galway based pop singer-songwriter Johnluke has released his new single, City Lovin'. We asked him the BIG questions . . .
The track "explores the ups and downs in a relationship - like neglect and differences between two people - while using subtle messages and metaphors to show the struggles. Even with different values, a strong connection can still hold things together".
Speaking about the new track, the Portumna native says, "While written from the heart - it's taken from personal experiences but fused together as a comical heartbreak anthem earworm."
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
I’m avid fan of sport particularly rugby, hurling and football. I love the feeling of going into the studio, flying blind and coming out with a finished song ready to see the world. I feel empathy towards people that I see struggling and if there’s a situation where I feel like I can help, then I will.
How would you describe your music?
A blend of comical romantic lyrics with upbeats melodies incorporated with catchy hooks creating a pop folk sound.
Who are your musical inspirations?
I’ve a long list to be honest... Ed Sheeran, Paulo Nutini, Noah Kahan, James Bay, and Kodaline.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
Ed Sheeran at Thomond Park in 2022, which what inspired me to pursue what I’m doing.
What was the first record you ever bought?
Kodaline - In A Perfect World. Love like This is the track that stands out to me the most.
What’s your favourite song right now?
Dermot Kennedy - Let Me In.
Favourite lyric of all time?
Tom Odell’s Lyrics from Black Friday - "I wanna better body, I want better skin, I wanna be perfect like all your friends". I also have to pick lyrics from one of my own songs, from Unholy - "she only writes sad songs because that all she had left".
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Don’t by Ed Sheeran. There not a day where I don’t listen to it!
