No Windows won the Sound of Young Scotland Award at the Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) Awards in 2023 and signed to Fat Possum Records as 18 and 19 years old respectively in 2024.
The Great Traitor once again sees the duo working with Ali Chant (Dry Cleaning, Yard Act, Sorry), and sees them continue to "refine their atmospheric indie pop blend, in favour of lush, psychedelic arrangements that take their cues from 70s chamber pop".
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
Verity: My favourite colour is green, I have a fear of flying but also love planes and whenever I see one above, I always look it up and aside from No Windows, I run my own stationary business!
How would you describe your music?
Morgan: I'd describe our music as being explorative, introspective and honest. Musically, it sits somewhere in-between folk, alt rock and chamber pop.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Verity: There are so many: Big Thief, Lorde, Elliot Smith, Jon Brion, Sufjan Stevens, Fiona Apple, Laura Marling and Mac Demarco. I could keep going on though…
What was the first gig you ever went to?
Morgan: The first gig I can remember going to was Thundercat in Edinburgh. It was right as lockdown was ending so everyone was sat, but by the end the whole crowd was up and dancing. Wholesome stuff.
What was the first record you ever bought?
Verity: I think it was Vessel by Twenty One Pilots haha. Not very cool unfortunately, it was during my emo phase that I got into buying CD's (I’ve never bought a record).
What’s your favourite song right now?
Morgan: My favourite song right now is I Didn’t Understand by Elliott Smith. It’s such a beautiful arrangement and a genius way to end an album.
Favourite lyric of all time?
Verity: On the top of my head, "I am my mother’s child; I’ll love you till my breathing stops." From Writer in the Dark by Lorde. I got these lyrics tattooed on my arm a couple of years ago only to get home and get told by one of my flat mates they are wrong way round so it reads 'I’ll love you till my breathing stops; I am my mother’s child.’
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Morgan: I’d probably pick Bach’s Prelude in C Major. It’s about as perfect as a composition can be, I reckon.
Where can people find your music/more information?
Verity: You can find us on Spotify, Apple, Tidal etc. under No Windows! And for more information we are most active on Instagram (@nowindowsmusic) You can keep up with gigs we are doing/ general rambles on there.
