easyclear aka Luke Deacon (son of Queen bass player John Deacon) has released his debut four-track EP, Green. We asked him the BIG questions . . .

London-based Luke spent years performing in bands, including Young Khan (a precursor to Sea Girls), and classic-pop outfit Kid Jupiter.

The Green EP is rooted in acoustic and classical guitar and inspired by the likes of Arthur Russell, Bert Jansch, and Elliott Smith.

Speaking about the EP, Luke says: "The worldbuilding is one of my favourite things we achieved with Green. The process involved being very sensitive to the naked tunes I had written - finding ways for modern technology to inhabit and develop the songs in a manner that felt either harmonious, or excitingly discordant.

"I came to see some of the sounds we generated as cartoonish characters - a ghostly cat solo at the end of The Pigeon, or the sweet birds on Interlude.

"This use of the machine to create expressive and alive-feeling characters brought me a lot of joy. For me it lends the songs a distinct, gentle, haunting quality."

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I'm getting into birds at the moment. Ducks, little garden birds, birds of prey, all great.

I've just finished the TV drama Lost (2004 - 2010). It still feels quite contemporary for something made 20 years ago. That island man.

I'm enjoying savoury crêpes a lot. There's a place near me that does great, proper French ones with egg, ham and cheese. I'll go there on a Sunday sometimes, feels right.

How would you describe your music?

Nostalgic, I think there's often a sense of bittersweetness. I've had people say soothing.

Who are your musical inspirations?

I suppose I'm often drawn towards male songwriters because that's what I'm doing. I really like artists who give a sense of having both a deep emotional world and a sense of humour. That's quite hard to do in song form. At the moment that's people like Cameron Winter, MJ Lenderman, Juan Wauters.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

I remember the first big gig I went to was Foo Fighters at the O2 in London. With my friend Jake and his dad. Full stadium rock experience. I was psyched on The Pretender. Bought a hoodie and never wore it.

What was the first record you ever bought?

Most likely a single from HMV, something like Teenage Dirtbag by Wheatus.

What's your favourite song right now?

This past week it's been After The Love Has Gone by Earth, Wind & Fire. So smooth, so playful. It makes me grin.

Favourite lyric of all time?

It's often the funny ones that I remember the best. The strangeness catches you off guard and lodges itself. I'll go with a line from Peter Sarstedt's Where Do You Go to My Lovely? "With your carefully designed topless swimsuit/You get an even suntan on your back, and on your legs."

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

What a cruel question. God Only Knows by The Beach Boys.
