Tell us three things about yourself . . .
Fascinated by animals. Love cheese and onion popcorn. Non-denominational Christian.
How would you describe your music?
Sincere, reality-based surrealism with colourful chords that play on words with both candour and irony, sweetness and heartache. I suppose it would be alternative, Irish folk music in its broadest sense. The alternative part covering; art-punk, psychedelic, baroque pop, electronic.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Anyone who's still playing music with artistic integrity, really. It's a very strange time for music at the moment. I like human music. Everything from classical to traditional Irish music, acoustic blues stuff and quite a lot in between. I have been quite inspired by electronic music at one point in time also. Tommy Peoples.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
Not actually sure what the first gig was honestly. AC/DC in Punchestown quite a few moons ago does stand out at this very moment. They put on a phenomenal show but can't say it was my first ever gig...
What was the first record you ever bought?
There was a second-hand music shop opposite the Dart station back when I was in school and I bought The Feeding Of The 5000 by Crass on CD. That was definitely one of the first albums anyway...
What’s your favourite song right now?
Only heard Mundo En Mis Manos by Qbanaa recently. Good tune.
Favourite lyric of all time?
Not sure, because it may not have been written or heard as of yet . . . but there's still time!
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Far too many songs to whittle down really . . . and then do classical pieces or trad tunes qualify? But at this very moment in time, I'd probably go with Love Letters sung by Ketty Lester.
Where can people find your music/more information?
All of the streaming places at the moment. The only social is Instagram @jpoduill. The full album has actually been completed for quite a while now and I'm looking into getting vinyl made. There will be release gig info out soon also.
