Ireland is among the 16 countries vying for a place in the Grand Final of the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest as the second semi-final gets underway in Basel this evening.

EMMY, a Norwegian-born artist representing Ireland, will perform Laika Party - an upbeat synth-pop tribute to the first dog in space - in the third slot of the night. With only ten qualifying spots available, competition is fierce.

Joining Ireland in the line-up are acts from across Europe and beyond, including Finland's Erika Vikman with the high-energy ICH KOMME, Malta’s Miriana Conte serving fierce attitude with SERVING, and Austria’s JJ with the emotional ballad Wasted Love.

EMMY will fly the flag for Ireland in tonight's semi final

Also competing tonight is Israeli artist Yuval Raphael, who will perform New Day Will Rise in Hebrew, French and English. A survivor of the 7 October attacks, his powerful message of hope is expected to resonate strongly with audiences.

The show opens with Australia’s Go-Jo and his funk-fuelled anthem Milkshake Man, and closes with Vikman’s explosive Finnish entry.

Viewers will also get a preview of entries from three of the automatic finalists: the UK’s Remember Monday with What The Hell Just Happened?, France’s Louane with maman, and Germany’s Abor & Tynna with Baller. These countries, along with hosts Switzerland, Italy and Spain, are pre-qualified for Saturday’s Grand Final.
