Singer Chesney Hawkes has described veteran US actor and fellow Celebrity Big Brother housemate Mickey Rourke as a "hurt man" after his departure from the reality show.

Hawkes spoke about his Big Brother housemate on the TV Bafta Awards red carpet and recalled the "inappropriate" comments he made on the programme.

"It's like a balance with him, really, because there’s a side to him that’s obviously rough," he told the PA news agency.

"He said some things that were very inappropriate and not okay to a lot of the housemates, but then there’s another side to him, that’s kind of a lost little boy in life.

"He’s a hurt man and, unfortunately, I think hurt men hurt. I feel for him. He needed to go, but it was an interesting experience for him."

Speaking about the Bafta nominations, Hawkes expressed his fondness for Disney+ series Rivals starring David Tennant.

"The one that I’ve been talking about, mostly because I loved it so much, was Rivals. Big David Tennant fan. That’s my recommendation - Rivals."
