Pick of the Day

An Evening with Elton John and Brandi Carlile

Here’s a treat for the many Elton John fans out there – especially as he has now retired from touring.

It’s a concert from the London Palladium in which Elton and Brandi Carlile (above) perform songs from their album Who Believes in Angels?, as well as duetting on each other's songs and other selected tunes.

Elton and Brandi also sit down for a conversation with Dan Levy, pulling back the curtain on their 20-year friendship and looking back at their remarkable lives and journeys.

New or Returning Shows

Blankety Blank, 8.00pm, BBC One

Fluffy game shows don’t come much lighter than this, a show that’s been on the go since the 1970s, back when Terry Wogan hosted.

Just a week after he signed off on Gladiators, Bradley Walsh (above) returns to helm this current incarnation of the comedy quiz show.

Tonight, celebrity panelists Antony Cotton, Nish Kumar, Rosie Jones, Lesley Joseph, Shane Richie and Mel B fill in the blanks to help contestants win some brilliant prizes.

If that’s not enough fluff for ya, Pointless Celebrities follows, where Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osman present the star-studded general knowledge quiz.

Mysteries of the Pyramids with Dara O Briain, 8.30pm, RTÉ2

This two-parter previously appeared on Britain’s Channel 5 and streamer Apple TV+ and is well worth a look.

Bray's Dara O Briain comedian explores intriguing mysteries surrounding the world's pyramids with the help of archaeologist Raksha Dave and Egyptologist Chris Naunton, beginning with why and how these structure were built.

The journey begins in Egypt with a search for answers about the missing body of pharaoh Khufu, the man behind the Great Pyramid of Giza.

New to Stream

The Parenting, Sky Cinema Premiere & NOW

Brian Cox, Edie Falco, Lisa Kudrow and Parker Posey are among the cast of this ghostly comedy, which follows young couple Rohan and Josh as they plan a perfect weekend getaway in the country to introduce their parents.

As tensions begin to flare between the more traditional Sharon and Frank and the laid-back Liddy and Cliff, the families soon realize that their rental - managed by eccentric local Brenda - is haunted by the presence of a 400-year-old poltergeist.

When one parent becomes thoroughly possessed, it's up to the young couple and their meddlesome BFF Sara to unite the families and stop the evil entity once and for all.

Don’t Miss

Doctor Who, 7.15pm, BBC One

Last week's season 15 opener was fun. Here's hoping they keep the standard up as recent seasons have been patchy at best.

This episode certainly looks colourful.

The Doctor's quest to get Belinda home takes the Tardis to Miami in 1952, where an abandoned cinema is hiding a terrifying secret. Guest starring Linus Roache, with Alan Cumming as the voice of a sinister living cartoon character.

Saturday Cinema

Shutter Island, 9.15pm, TG4

Martin Scorsese's mystery thriller, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo and Ben Kingsley, may not be among his best – but a good Scorsese flick still has plenty to admire.

This horror story sees US marshal, traumatised by his past, head to a hospital for the criminally insane on a remote island to investigate the disappearance of a woman who murdered her children.

As the case unfolds, he begins to suspect the doctors are hiding something - and that a grisly fate awaits all the patients on a sinister ward.

Senna, 11.00pm, Channel 4

Superb documentary about the life of legendary Brazilian Formula One driver Ayrton Senna (below).

It examines his achievements on the track over a 10-year period that saw him crowned world champion three times, until his death in a crash during the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.

Featuring rare footage from the F1 archives and contributions from fellow racing stars including Alain Prost and Jackie Stewart.

Family Flick

Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical, 6.35pm, RTÉ One

This is brilliant, with young Irish actress Alisha Weir (second left) outstanding in the lead role, alongside an unrecognisable Emma Thompson - that's her, far right - in this Roald Dahl adaptation.

Bookish wunderkind Matilda has the misfortune to be raised by garish used car salesman Mr Wormwood and his monstrous wife.

The precocious youngster harnesses dormant telekinetic powers when she enrols at Crunchem Hall under hulking headmistress Agatha Trunchbull, played by Thompson.

All the action from the match at DHL Stadium in Cape Town as Stormers host Connacht (below, KO 3pm).

Clare MacNamara presents, with analysis from Donncha O'Callaghan and Fiona Coghlan, and commentary by Des Curran and Gavin Duffy

From 5pm attention turns to Munster v Bulls (KO 5.15pm) at Thomond Park.

The Bulls were runners-up to Glasgow Warriors last season and look set to feature in the play-offs once again, while Munster have not been at their consistent best so far this term - but a win this evening would go some way to help them securing their own post-season spot.

Then at 7.15pm on TG4 there's Rugbaí Beo as Leinster v Ulster (KO 7.35pm). Live coverage of the United Rugby Championship match from Aviva Stadium
