Irish stars tipped for Emmy nominations in July

Irish actors Colin Farrell, Lola Petticrew, and Fiona Shaw have been tipped to be among this year's Emmy Awards nominees in July.

US entertainment trade publication Variety has Farrell as the favourite in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie category for his performance in the DC Comics adaptation The Penguin. Farrell has already won IFTA, Screen Actors Guild, Critics Choice, and Golden Globe awards for his portrayal of the villain.

Petticrew is tipped for a nomination in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie category for her performance in the Troubles drama Say Nothing. Petticrew is among the nominees for next month's BAFTA Awards in the UK and was an IFTA winner at home in February.

Variety tips Shaw to be among the nominees in the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series category for her work on the darkly comic Bad Sisters.

The nominations will be announced on Tuesday 15 July.

The Emmys will take place on Sunday 14 September at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
