Tell us three things about yourself

I'm a singer/songwriter from Dublin, I've just released my new single, Girl From New York, and I have a dog called Elvis.

How would you describe your music?

I love a lot of different styles of music, which tends to come out in my writing. It makes the live shows fun to play and brings the audience through a mix of emotions. You'll be fully expected to cry, dance and laugh all within a show.

Who are your musical inspirations?

Some of my favourite songwriters are Paul Simon, Ryan Adams, Damien Rice, Tom Waits, and Chris Martin.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

My first ever gig was Embrace in the Olympia. I fell in love with the place and swore I'd be back to play some day myself, which I've lucky enough to do.

What was the first record you ever bought?

The first record I ever bought was Moseley Shoals by Ocean Colour Scene. I still love it.

What's your favourite song right now?

At the moment I'm obsessed with I'm a Song by Stephen Wilson Jr, and Who Came up With Love by Graham Mitchell.

Favourite lyric of all time?

"I remember that time you told me, You said, `love is touching souls,' Surely you touched mine, 'Cause part of you pours out of me, In these lines from time to time" - A Case of You by Joni Mitchell. It's so true that without realising, your songs are shaped by your experiences in love and life, and some songs can just fall out without you even realising you're writing about a particular person or time in your life.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Robin Hood by Ocean Colour Scene. It was the first song I learned on guitar and just brings me back to my childhood instantly.

Where can people find your music/more information?

The best place to find me is on Instagram @brianmcgovernmusic to find out about any upcoming dates/releases. My new single, Girl From New York, is out so you can find that and other songs on all the usual streaming platforms, Spotify/Apple Music etc.
