Vicky McClure has responded to reports that Line of Duty is set to return for a seventh season of the hit cop show next year, saying there's "no news" but that they "don't want to rule it out".
Over the weekend, several news outlets reported that writer Jed Mercurio and the three main stars, McClure, Martin Compston and Northern Irish actor Adrian Dunbar, had committed to a new run, with filming set to commence in January 2026.
Speaking on The Oliver Callan Show on RTÉ Radio 1 on Monday morning from the set of her show Trigger Point, McClure commented: "What can I say, I read the same news you all read! Nothing has changed. No news I'm afraid, I don't know where that came from."
When Callan pointed out that fans are dying for a new series of the BBC show, she replied: "Listen, we love that.
"The thing is, if I had something to tell you I would, but I don't! I don't want to tease people unnecessarily.
"It's great that they want it, but they're stories at the end of the day."
"We don't want to rule it out," she added.

The actor said she and her Line of Duty co-stars have remained close and still see one another, but that they are "very busy".
She said: "We see each other a lot at the moment and I've got to say it might seem like we are drip-feeding something, but in all seriousness Martin lives in Las Vegas some of the year, Adrian is obviously sometimes in Ireland, sometimes in London and I'm most of the time in Nottingham, Jed's here there and everywhere...
"We are all very busy but the last, sort of, month we've all been in London so we've made as much time for each other as we can because we're mates... we've met up for a curry, we've met up for a beer."
She added of her Line of Duty co-star Dunbar, who plays Superintendent Ted Hastings in the show: "Adrian Dunbar is on fine form, he's all good. We all met up the week before and had some food, which was lovely.
"He's a really funny guy, always got good one-liners, but his Ted one-liners are something else."

The Nottingham-born star also spoke about her love of Belfast, where Line of Duty was primarily filmed.
"I've spent I'd say over 10 years shooting there and I've got to know the city really well," she said.
"They're so welcoming, we've always had a brilliant time shooting there, the nightlife is great, the food, the people.
"We've always felt really at home there."
