Filming has begun in Tenerife on These Sacred Vows, RTÉ's new comedy-drama series about an Irish wedding abroad where secrets, desire and chaos bubble to the surface over one unforgettable week.

Created by award-winning Irish writer-director John Butler (The Outlaws, Handsome Devil), the six-part series opens with a mystery: the morning after the wedding a priest is found dead in a swimming pool. Each episode then rewinds the clock, following a different character's perspective as the story unfolds.

Described as dark, funny and emotionally sharp, These Sacred Vows boasts a stellar cast led by Tom Vaughan-Lawlor (Love/Hate, Say Nothing), Justine Mitchell (Derry Girls), Jason O'Mara (Agents of SHIELD) and India Mullen (Normal People).

The ensemble also includes Adam John Richardson, Tom Hanson, Jade Auguste, Aaron Heffernan, Aoife Hinds and comedians Shane Daniel Byrne and Catherine Bohart.

Produced by Rob Walpole and Rebecca O'Flanagan of Irish independent production company Treasure Entertainment, the series is being made in association with Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland and Banijay Rights, who will handle international sales. Treasure's previous collaborations with Butler include Handsome Devil, Papi Chulo and The Stag.

Speaking about the project, Butler said: "Irish weddings are unique and uniquely mad. I love the idea of six interwoven films, all set in the same place, with each character experiencing the madness very differently."

RTÉ's Acting Head of Drama, David Crean, called the show "a treat for Irish audiences", praising Butler's writing as "full of life and naughtiness".

These Sacred Vows was commissioned by RTÉ and is set to air in 2026.
