Irish actor Allen Leech is set to return to the big screen in the final production of the Downton Abbey franchise, Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale. The film is set to hit cinemas globally on Friday, 12 September.
The new film picks up where the 2022 sequel, Downton Abbey: A New Era, left off. In that instalment, much of the filming took place in the South of France as the Crawley family embarked on a grand journey to unravel the mystery behind the dowager countess's newly inherited villa.
Most of the original cast will return to Highclere Castle, with the notable absence of Maggie Smith, whose character, the acerbic dowager countess Violet Crawly, passed away in A New Era.
Smith passed away at the age of 89 last September.
In addition, the film will welcome new cast members including Joely Richardson, Arty Froushan, Simon Russell Beale and Alessandro Nivola.
Universal Pictures confirmed the final movie will be released in cinemas globally on Friday 12 September.
Details of the plot remain under wraps, leaving fans eagerly anticipating what the final chapter will bring.
