Pick of the Day

Yellowstone was a big sleeper hit on RTÉ so there’s bound to be a lot of interest in this prequel that stars Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and Sam Elliott - especially for those who haven't got Paramount+.

While the original show is set in present-day USA, the prequel – the clue is in the title! - sees the post-Civil War generation of the Dutton family making their way westward through the last bastion of untamed America.

James arrives in Texas, where he and his family join a wagon train to make their way through the Great Plains in search of a new home and the promise of opportunity.

George Clarke returns for a 13th season, as he follows more fantastic, unlikely and amazing builds, and, in an Amazing Spaces first, shines a light on three of the best builds he's always wanted to see; from tree houses and budget builds to unique and eco creations.

In this opening episode, George meets a former circus chef and his pregnant partner, who are turning two large lorries into a travelling home and restaurant before their baby is born!

Meanwhile, a young couple convert a tiny city car into the ultimate mini campervan, rugged enough to survive trips to the Arctic Circle.

George also starts his Portuguese architectural trip, in the stunning hillside village of Monsanto, where homes are literally built into boulders.

Plus, in a new twist to Amazing Spaces, George shines a light on three fantastic builds that he's never seen before, starting with a trio of wonderful and very different tree houses.

Talking to John Wilson, author Salman Rushdie recalls his childhood in Bombay and the folk tales and religious fables he grew up with.

He chooses Indian independence and partition in 1947 as one of the defining moments of his creative life, a period that formed the historical backdrop to Midnight’s Children.

He discusses how, having first moved to England as a schoolboy and then to New York after the fatwa, the subject of migration has recurred throughout much of his work, including The Satanic Verses.

Rushdie also explains how 'surrealism, fabulism and mythical storytelling' are such an influence on his work, with particular reference to his 1999 novel The Ground Beneath Her Feet, which was inspired by the ancient Greek tale of Orpheus and Eurydice.

As Rushdie says, 'truth in art can be arrived at through many doors'.
