Looking ahead to Eurosong, he said: "I am so stoked. I can't wait to perform. It's going to be craic... I'm ready!"

"I've always wanted to enter a song into the Eurovision, and this is definitely a banger!" he told the host.

NIYL is billed as mixing "a unique blend of emotionally fuelled vocals with an electronic sound to deliver powerful, cinematic, original works".

As a queer Irish artist, NIYL wants to "amplify queer culture in the Irish music industry with his music".

The countdown to Basel is on

His debut album, Parish Is Burning, is due for release this year.

Ireland's six Eurovision contenders will battle it out on The Late Late Show Eurosong Special on Friday 7 February at 9:35pm on RTÉ One, where they will face a combination of the National Jury, International Jury, and public vote.

Each artist will perform their song, selected from hundreds of entries received by RTÉ following a callout for submissions last year.

"I think what we're really showcasing with all of these songs is how strong the Irish music industry is in terms of versatility," NIYL added.

"There's so many different artists making unbelievable music, and I think the selection this year really, really represents that."

The Eurovision Song Contest Semi-Finals will take place in Basel, Switzerland, on Tuesday 13 and Thursday 15 May with the Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final taking place on Saturday 17 May.
