What's on? Top 10 TV and streaming tips for Wednesday

The Traitors
The Traitors

The Traitors is back for its final episodes, there's a documentary about Éamon de Valera, Simon Schama meets Bono and talks Seamus Heaney, Prime Target is back for a second run, and there's more Champions League action . . .

Pick of the Day

The Traitors, 9.00pm, BBC One

The best show on TV has come up with another cracking run - it's such a pity there are only three episodes remaining.

As ever, Claudia Winkelman hosts as the survivors battle it out for a bag of money.

This season has so far been a great one for the girls as all the traitors have been female, while the likes of Anna (above) from Wicklow (sadly gone), Leanne and Lisa (the lying priest!) all made memorable turns as faithfuls.

Who’s going to win? I’d love to see Charlotte triumph. She was smart as a faithful but has adapted to her traitor role with admirable relish.

As the show returns tonight, there are just six faithful and two traitors left.

But there are sure to be some twists – and daft accusations– between now and Friday’s finale.

New or Returning Shows

De Valera San Fhásach, 9.30pm, TG4

This is a trwo-part documentary about American-born Irish statesman and political leader Éamon de Valera, a leader in the 1916 Easter Rising.

In 1924, De Valera was stripped of power and in poor mental health in prison. There was a cohort of radical women involved in the 1916 Rising and the War of Independence who supported him.

Then the Treaty happened. As suddenly as he had gained power, de Valera was locked out of it.

Opposing the Treaty gave these women common ground with De Valera, but who would end up the losers in this political game?

Simon Schama's Story of Us, 9.00pm, BBC Two

Simon Schama explores the work of artists who have taken inspiration from the British landscape, and expressed how vital it is to people's sense of who they are.

Oddly enough, two of them are Irish.

He takes a look at Philip Larkin’s poem Going, Going, the poetry of Seamus Heaney, and the agitprop Scottish play The Cheviot, the Stag and the Black Black Oil.

He also visits Derek Jarman’s extraordinary garden in Dungeness, created as he was dying from Aids.

And there's an interview with U2’s Bono (above) about his deep affection for Seamus Heaney’s poetry and the role of culture in the run-up to the historic Good Friday Agreement.

New to Stream

Ending Today

Shoah: Second Era, 11.20pm, BBC Four

Here’s the second and final part of this much-heralded Holocaust documentary by Claude Lanzmann from 1985.

Lanzmann went in search of concentration camp survivors, witnesses and former members of the Nazi party, and conducted in-depth interviews to produce a detailed, first-hand account of the atrocities committed.

It also examines how the bigotry that led to the genocide still exists decades on.

It’s just people telling their own stories, which makes it eerily compelling.
