Second Eurovision hopeful: 'The song is really dramatic'

Reylta, who has been revealed as the second artist in the running to represent Ireland at the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest, which will take place in Basel, Switzerland, this May, said she believes her track "is a magic song".

Reylta's music is described as being "rooted deeply in Irish tradition and heritage". She has been performing with her band since 2017 and released her debut single, Fools Games, in 2019.

Speaking on The Ray D'Arcy Show on RTÉ Radio 1 on Tuesday, the Galway singer said she's been singing and songwriting from a young age.

"I’ve been singing since I’ve been six months old. I started writing at eleven because I was doing competitions. I saw that people who weren’t very great singers were getting into the next round by writing their own songs. I’m very fueled by spite and knew I could do it," she laughed.

Asked about her track, Fire, Reylta said "it’s a magic song" that is about those electrifying moments when you first meet someone.

"The song is really dramatic. I think it’s a magic song. I’m very excited to be here but it’s the song that has gotten me this far. It’s about passion and when you feel that instant chemistry with somebody," she said.

Quizzed about the other five finalists, which Ray revealed was made up of all solo artists - four females and two males - she joked: "The way it should be!"

Reylta confessed to "loving" competition shows like Hell’s Kitchen and X Factor and said the Eurovision is right down her street. "Absolutely, I’m going to hop on," she added.

Billed by The Irish Independent as "Galway's Alt Folk Queen", Reylta's debut album, Everything Unsaved Will Be Lost, was released last October.

Reylta will compete alongside five other acts in the Eurosong final on The Late Late Show Eurosong Special on 7 February.
