Denis Leary has said that "ten different Irish cousins" would turn up every day on set when he was filming his new TV series Going Dutch in Ireland.
Speaking on US talkshow Today with Jenna and Friends, the Thomas Crown Affair star explained that both his parents grew up in Killarney and moved to the US in the 1950s.
"My parents are from the same village in Killarney, from adjoining farms, and I have about 7,000 cousins in that town.
"Just like Mexicans, yeah, yeah, no birth control and so there are a million of us over there, who would come ten at a time to the set every day.
"And by the way, not only to watch us shooting, but they knew people in the crew, Irish crew, they would say 'hey man, I was in school with your brother!'
"But its weird my mother is still alive, she is 97 and very on top of everything, so for her, it's really strange for me, they came here on a boat in 1950 and for all this time to go past and now I'm in Ireland shooting a television series, its crazy for them."
Going Dutch centres on an American Colonel who is caught by his superiors having a disparaging rant and gets sent to Stroopsdorf military base in Holland as a punishment.
The base is no ordinary base and is filled with military misfits and the additional hiccup of Leary's character's estranged daughter being stationed there - Captain Maggie Quinn.
Going Dutch was filmed in Dublin between August and December it is currently streaming on Hulu.
When asked if his mother is proud of him, he replied, "She is, she is very proud of me but my mother is a straight shooter. She just told me yesterday, I was talking to her and when I am in something and she doesn't like it, she tells me, she hates it, it's boring, you were boring, I've seen you do this before."
"But she watched Going Dutch on Hulu, she watched a couple of episodes, the night before last and I called her yesterday and she said 'I liked that a lot, I was really laughing out loud, I laughed so hard at the girl who plays your daughter, its really funny, It's good.'
"I have the 97-year-old immigrant mom by my side." he added.
