Dune and Mission: Impossible star Rebecca Ferguson has joined Cillian Murphy in the upcoming Peaky Blinders film for Netflix.

US entertainment trade publication Deadline, which first reported the news, says details of Ferguson's role are "being kept under wraps".

In April, Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight said the big screen spin-off of the BBC's hit crime drama would be set during World War II.

Director Tom Harper, who previously directed episodes in the first season of Peaky Blinders in 2013, will return for the film.

Production on the movie, made in association with BBC Film, is due to begin this year.

Murphy will next be seen in cinemas in Small Things Like These, an adaptation of the Claire Keegan bestseller of the same name. It is due to open on Friday 1 November.
