Kneecap rapper Móglaí Bap has told Second Captains Saturday on RTÉ Radio 1 that he saved his big-screen co-star Michael Fassbender from being turned away at the Belfast trio's local bar when the Oscar nominee arrived wearing a tracksuit.

Ahead of Kneecap - the movie - arriving in cinemas on Thursday 8 August, Móglaí Bap aka Naoise Ó Cairealláin joined Second Captains Saturday to discuss making the award-winning origin story and having Fassbender play his on-screen father.

He joked that Fassbender was "completely star-struck" working alongside Kneecap.

"He gave us a few pointers, a few tips," Móglaí Bap continued.

"We brought him down to our local after, Madden's - but he was wearing a tracksuit, so they wouldn't let him in! I swear to God."

"You're not serious?" said Second Captains Saturday co-host Eoin McDevitt.

"No, I'm being serious!" Móglaí Bap continued. "I had to have a few words with the doorman, but we got him in eventually."

"What are the tips that he gave you?" asked McDevitt.

"I think he just basically doesn't really read the script and just kind of, whatever, goes with the flow, to have a lack of a better term!" Móglaí Bap replied.

"He was just pretty chilled out about it and just had a bit of craic. I mean, he's been doing massive movies - X-Men, Tarantino, and stuff - so I don't think our movie was much of a challenge to him!

"But he was very committed to it. As they say, the better the actor is, the easier it is for the other actor.

"It was daunting, but also it was a pleasure that I actually got an opportunity to have a scene with him. Because when we found out initially Fassbender's doing the film, we all kind of jumped with excitement - and then the other two lads realised they've no scenes with Fassbender!"

Kneecap opens in cinemas on Thursday 8 August.
