Indie-folk five-piece Bottlemoth have released their debut single, Tattoo. We asked vocalist Ethan the BIG questions . . .

The track was written and produced by the band themselves across home studios and is taken from their upcoming debut album Even Us Ghosts, out later this year.

Bottlemoth formed in January 2024 by the former members of Bridges and have performed alongside The Dangerous Summer, Cold Years, Jim Lockey & The Solemn Sun and Adult Leisure.

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

We are five friends based across the Southwest of England who have been playing together in various bands across the years. Bottlemoth is a new venture which we launched in January after the end of a project called Bridges. We tucked away to self-produce our first record, have since played our first shows and will be releasing our debut album this year.

How would you describe your music?

We make indie rock/indie folk music, with a hint of alt country/west coast emo inspiration.

Who are your musical inspirations?

It's a big question, but standouts are Frightened Rabbit, Manchester Orchestra, The Wonder Years, The Gaslight Anthem, The National and Fleet Foxes.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

We grew up with a really good music scene in my hometown. My first show was a weird billing, three local bands who sounded nothing alike at the local arts centre. First time in a mosh pit to a band called Koala Attack. A friend's band was opening so that’s why I came, and then I was hooked. Kept going to everything I could growing up. My first big gig though, would be Glastonbury as we were close to the festival.

What was the first record you ever bought?

HMV did 3 CDs for £10 - I picked up Motörhead, AC/DC - For Those About to Rock, and Offspring’s greatest hits.

What’s your favourite song right now?

My favourite song again right now is Leif Vollebekke - Elegy.

Favourite lyric of all time?

Unbelievably difficult, but this year the Guillemots came back into my listening just before I got married and it just fills me with joy every time I hear it. Maybe Made-up Love song number #43: "The best things come from nowhere, I can’t believe you care"

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Mirrorball by Elbow. To be fair, most Elbow tunes.

Where can people find your music/more information?

We are @bottlemoth on all social media, searching Bottlemoth on Spotify/Apple etc, or you can find us on our website.
