Tell us three things about yourself . . .
I'm distantly related to Dustin The Turkey. I cook stew that makes mothers flirt with me. I am a competent liar: the things I say are untrustworthy
How would you describe your music?
100% Drivel from Concentrate . . . Ah no, it's a patchworked sort of sound taken from a lot of genres, artists and bands that each of us are respectively fond of. Tender, intricate, sincere and intentional when it's necessary, but always looking for a chance to go off the rails, get heavy, and muck about with it. If it was to be classified, I'd say it would be "post-messing". Jack holds it down on the drums, Tadhg gets freaky wit' it on the bass, Joe Dillon is a guitar whizz, and I write songs about how head-wrecking it is that I got charged an extra two quid for garlic mayo. It's awful, Joe.
Who are your musical inspirations?
When I was writing the first batch of songs, I was living in Germany. I was informed by a strict diet of The Microphones, pilsners, Belle & Sebastian, crap dates, Big Thief, little sleep, Richard Dawson, Rob Doyle books, Joni Mitchell, Tindersticks, Sorry, more pilsner, Slint and Black Country, New Road. I had tried to write a lot of filthy songs like the early Fat White Family stuff, but it just was forced and they sounded woeful. Or I'd say the band I'd most want to be like would be Godspeed You! Black Emperor, they're just undeniably massive and build autonomous spots for their songs to live in. Also, all of the music coming out of Ireland is beast; the queer and female representation that's growing domestically and internationally in guitar music right now makes me proud to be Irish.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
I saw the Arctic Monkeys during their Favourite Worst Nightmare Tour in Malahide Castle when I was six. I remember buying whatever sized t-shirt would (hardly) fit me, and proudly wearing it into school the day after like a dress.
What was the first record you ever bought?
It was most definitely a Now That's What I Call Music CD at some stage during the 2000s; back when they were making supa' hot fire. But the first one I can remember buying with my own money was Random Access Memories by Daft Punk. 'Wait a second... I know the synthesizer...'
What's your favourite song right now?
Bros by Panda Bear - it's perfect for the sunny weather. Guess by Charli XCX, produced by The Dare, hasn't made me do so hard of a stank face in a while either.
Favourite lyric of all time?
The one that's jumping to mind right now is 'I'm Jay-Z on a bad day, Shakespeare on my worst days' from Offence by Little Simz. Hard.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I Am The Resurrection by The Stone Roses. Simples.
Where can people find your music/more information?
Mainly through the Instagram @softdrink_millionaire, and obviously on d'Spotify as well.
