Ciara Rose
Ciara Rose

Dublin pop-folk singer songwriter Ciara Rose has released her new single, The Daughter Of James Connolly. We asked her the BIG questions . . .

Growing up in Blanchardstown, Cíara discovered a passion for music at a young age, which caught the eye of a teacher at Corduff Primary School, who encouraged her to apply to Cór na nÓg RTÉ Children's Choir.

The Daughter of James Connolly, written by Frank Allen in 2005, captures the poignant final moments between Irish revolutionary socialist James Connolly and his daughter, Nora.

The lyrics echo the very words James spoke to Nora on his deathbed in Dublin Castle where, in the early hours of the morning, Nora and Lillie, his wife and eldest daughter, were summoned to his bedside to be informed of his impending execution by British crown forces.

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

Traditional folk/pop. Love Irish traditional so I go in and out of both genres.

I love Mary Black, Lankum, Gemma Dunlevy, Denise Chaila, Lyra. There’s just so much talent on this small island and our Irish artists inspire me a lot.

B*witched, loved jumping around to them! Funny, years later I auditioned for a girl group where one of bewitched were holding auditions.

What was the first record you ever bought?

Think it was C’est La Vie by B*witched. I remember really wanting Victoria Beckham’s song Out of Your Mind too around that time. haha!

What’s your favourite song right now?

I’ve two at the moment Hinds Hall by Macklemore and Better Way to Live by Kneecap.

Favourite lyric of all time?

As the 1916 Rising is such a special part of history for me and I didn’t write my own lyrics for my current single I think I’m allowed say my new single The Daughter of James Connolly has some amazing lyrics, my favourite being - "She said but your beautiful life and I’ll never forget his reply, wasn’t it a wonderful life and a wonderful cause to die."

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

It definitely changes a lot but I love Never Tear Us Apart by INXS. I recently got married and this was my entrance song.
